Proverbs 1 Devotional

Purpose of Proverbs

1 The proverbs of Solomon, King David’s son, from Israel:

2 Their purpose is to teach wisdom and discipline,

to help one understand wise sayings.

3 They provide insightful instruction,

which is righteous, just, and full of integrity.

4 They make the naive mature,

    the young knowledgeable and discreet.

5 The wise hear them and grow in wisdom;

    those with understanding gain guidance.

6 They help one understand proverbs and difficult sayings the words of the wise, and their puzzles.

7 Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord,

but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Purpose of Proverbs (Verses 1–7):

Author: The proverbs are attributed to Solomon, King David’s son, known for his wisdom.

Objective:

To teach wisdom and discipline.

To provide understanding of wise sayings and moral integrity.

To guide the naive and the young toward maturity, knowledge, and discretion.

To deepen the wisdom of the already wise and offer guidance to those with understanding.

Key Verse: “Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord, but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (verse 7).

This emphasizes that a respectful relationship with God is the foundation of true wisdom.

Children, when it comes to gaining wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, we must first fear the Lord. In Proverbs chapter 1, written by Solomon, he teaches us how to get wisdom. This wisdom helps those who are young and inexperienced become wise. Remember, you’re never too young to seek God. Ask Him for wisdom, and He will guide you."
