Battle Ready

Ephesians 1:13-14

As soldiers in Christ's army, we need to don our uniform every day—the helmet, breastplate, belt, and sandals. Then we must take up our weapons and get into proper position to obey our commander's orders. Here are some ideas for completing your spiritual preparations. Pray . . .

Lord, thank You for the shield of faith which covers me and protects me from the Enemy’s fiery darts. Help me to use it consistently and to keep it in good condition. (Romans 10:17) Father, I take up the sword of the Spirit, which is Your Word. I know it is more powerful than any physical sword. (Hebrews 4:12) Teach me how to wield this weapon effectively. I want to use it offensively to share the salvation message and defensively to protect myself and others. Thank you that the truth of Your promises will defeat the attacks of my enemies, just as it did for Jesus. (Matthew 4:1-11)

God, I want to take my place in Your army. Scripture tells me that "in Christ" is my proper position. (Ephesians 6:10) To do that, I lay down my independent ways and acknowledge my absolute dependence on Jesus. I choose to draw on the Spirit's divine power instead of relying on my own strength to fight. I am deliberately setting aside my plans and taking my orders from You.

Every day our enemy Satan and his forces will try to take advantage of our weaknesses. The Devil will use temptations and lies in order to defeat us. But he will be unsuccessful when we are "battle ready." (James 4:7)
