Bishop's Corner | The Xiaomanyc 小马在纽约 Scam



This is Mr. Smith, and he scammed me bad. Of course, he has not wronged me in any way, but his advice in language learning did not serve my purposes, and here's why. Xiaomanyc 小马在纽约 is a part of the speak from day 1 crew, he claims he has learned languages in 30 days and less. But in fact, all he does is parrot these languages, and has admitted to only being able to speak 4-5 fluently. I bought into the hype but realized that skipping straight to the creating phase left my language learning shallow. You need a certain amount of comprehensible input in order to create the language you are learning, because just because you can parrot doesn't mean you can speak the language. I still respect his ability, but the 5 stages of fluency that I have developed has now helped me to see past all the scams. When you are ready to create the language, that's when you are ready for language exchanges like #italki #hellotalk and #tandem  if you go on these apps any sooner, you will be wasting your money, when you can be doing these other activities yourself. Wait until you are ready to create, and then go to these language exchange apps.
